MANILA, Philippines — Sports excellence, rich culture, music and history will be on full display as the ASICS Rock ‘n’ Roll Running Series officially rolls off its first Asian edition in the City of Manila today.
Thousands of athletes are in line for different race events around the historic city featuring scenic Manila landmarks with Rizal Park serving as its starting line.
Around 5,000 runners are expected to participate including 1,316 attendees for the centerpiece 42K event of the Rock ‘n’ Roll Running Series, the world’s largest running series event with renowned sports apparel ASICS as title sponsor.
The event is also the first race in the city amid the pandemic, staging courses for the 5K, 10K and 21K distances as well starting at 5 a.m.
“Walang city marathons ang Pilipinas like Berlin and Boston among the few. Ito pa lang ang una. Bukod doon, mahilig rin tayo sa musika at sayaw kaya the Rock ‘n’ Roll Running Series is really perfect for the City of Manila. It’s a perfect and winning combination,” said Princess Galura, president and general manager of Sunrise Events Inc., under the IRONMAN Group, in a presser ahead of the historic event.
