Age-groupers clash in short course swim series opener

John Bryan Ulanday - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Hundreds of up-and-coming swimmers led by junior ace Jasmine Mojdeh will slug it out in the Luzon leg of the 2022 Short Course Swim Competition Series this weekend as organized by Finis Philippines and the Bases Conversion and Development Authority.

Mojdeh, a national junior record holder, is among the favorites in the two-day event kickstarting the return of sports activities at the world-class Aquatics Center in New Clark City, Capas, Tarlac.

Winners of each age group category will have a chance to compete in the Finis National Finals in June also at the FINA-certified swimming facility that served as one of the main Southeast Asian Games hubs in 2019.

Budding triathletes will showcase their potential in the first Kids of Steel (KOS) Triathlon tomorrow with the backing of Finis, the worldwide leader in technical swim products.

“Finis exudes elite swimming since all its training gear innovations are developed to make the best of the best. We only find it fitting that we kick off our very own swim competitions with the best and in the only global standard facility in our nation,” said Finis Philippines director Vince Garcia.

“With the country now shifting to the new normal, the BCDA is looking forward to opening its doors to more swimmers and athletes in new Clark City for access to world-class sport facilities,” said Atty. Aristotle Batuhan, BCDA president and CEO.

After the weekend events, Finis is hoping to stage the Long Course Swim Competition Series, Open Water Swim Races, Aquathlons and swimming clinics to further advance the sport in the country.
