MANILA, Philippines — The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) yesterday officially reset the Sixth Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG) from March next year to November in 2023 in Bangkok and Chonburi, Thailand due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The OCA fully understands and respects the decision of the NOC (National Olympic Committee) of Thailand, Thailand AIMAG Organizing Committee and the Royal Thai government to postpone (the Games) due to the global pandemic,” said OCA acting president Raja Randhir Singh in his letter to Thai NOC president Gen. Prawit Wongsuwon.
Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) president Abraham Tolentino said the rescheduling of the quadrennial meet should give participating countries more time to prepare.
“The postponement would allow our athletes to be better prepared for the AIMAG, which ranks as one of the most important multi-sport competitions in the continent,” said Tolentino.
It’s the second time that the AIMAG schedule was moved.
