Fajardo joins Gilas camp

MANILA, Philippines — US NCAA ace guard Ella Fajardo is expected to be present today when the Gilas Pilipinas women’s team ramps up its training for the FIBA Women’s Asia Cup set Sept. 27 to Oct. 3 in Amman, Jordan.

Gilas coach and program director Pat Aquino said the Fil-Am standout from Fairleigh Dickinson U is set to complete her mandatory quarantine.

The Nationals are working out under a bubble set-up at the Summit Point Golf and Country Club in Lipa, Batangas in preparation for their first international competition since ruling the Southeast Asian Games at home in 2019.

“We’re practicing twice a day to familiarize (ourselves) with the system again. The team is excited to represent our country even during these times,” Aquino told The STAR as Gilas braces for a tall order in Group B against Australia, China and Chinese Taipei.
