Eala kisses hopes goodbye

NEW YORK – In a match featuring an exciting new generation of women’s tennis, teenagers Emma Raducanu and Leylah Fernandez face each other in an unlikely US Open final on Saturday.

Alex Eala blew her chances for another Grand Slam title after exiting in the semifinals of the US Open juniors girls’ doubles in New York yesterday.

Eala and partner Hanne Vandewinkel of Belgium bowed to the American duo of Reese Brantmeier and Elvina Kalieva, 5-7, 6-2, 10-7, and missed making it to the finals.

The Filipina-Belgian tandem earlier carved out a 6-1, 6-7, 10-7 quarterfinals victory against another American pair of Elizabeth Coleman and Madison Sieg before eventually running out of steam in the second straight game of rain-delayed matches.
