PSC bares P46 million war chest for Tokyo

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines Sports Commission (PSC) has prepared a war chest of P46.230 million as the country shoots for a first Olympic gold medal in Tokyo next month.

The PSC board chaired by William Ramirez approved the amount proposed by the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) last Tuesday.

“We’re happy to accept and approve the said request to show our commitment to support the national team’s effort to bring the best contingent possible to Tokyo,” said Ramirez.

Apart from the expenses on airfare, accommodation and allowances, it will also cover costs on COVID-19 tests and quarantine requirements, and insurance of the entire delegation expected to reach more than 50.

It includes money for treatment, travel and repatriation of a delegate just in case of a medical emergency caused by the pandemic.

There was no mention on who will shoulder the other expenses that will be incurred in the purchase of flags, pins, luggage and parade uniforms needed for the opening and closing ceremonies.
