MANILA, Philippines — Roberto Gomez kept the Philippine flag flying in the 2021 World Pool Championship, barging into Round-of-16 after back-to-back victories Tuesday night at Marshall Arena in Milton Keynes, England.
Gomez, who swept his two assignments in the preliminaries, continued his charge in the knockout rounds, disposing of South Africa’s Muhummed Daydat, 11-2, and Singapore’s Aloysius Yapp, 11-7.
The 42-year-old cuemaster from Zamboanga was gunning for a quarterfinal berth against USA’s Skyler Woodward last night. Woodward reached the Last-16 after ousting defending champion Fedor Gorst of Russia, 11-8, then scuttling Denmark’s Bahram Lotfy, 11-2.
