MANILA, Philippines — The Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) is planning to push through with the 2021 Chooks-to-Go-Mumbaki Cup in late August or early September instead of its traditional opening date of June 12.
By that time, the MPBL is anticipating a better situation in the country and for its entire delegation to be fully vaccinated in a bid to hold the 19-team Mumbaki Cup under a closed-circuit setup.
Yet to be determined, however, is the host local government unit (LGU) including the season-long venue according to MPBL commissioner Kenneth Duremdes.
“Iyan pa ang tinitingnan namin kung anong pwedeng LGU at venue ang papayag na magbigay ng permit sa atin. Pagmi-meetingan pa namin kung saan,” Duremdes told The STAR.
The closed-circuit setting, or a home-gym-home routine, will be a transition for the MPBL from a bubble environment in Subic for its stalled Lakan Cup last March.
