TNT slams Kelly’s stunt
MANILA, Philippines — Will the Kelly Williams issue become a legal case?
Williams’ sudden retirement apparently doesn’t sit well with TNT KaTropa with whom he has a live contract until Dec. 31, 2020.
KaTropa team manager Gabby Cui said they have tasked the 2008 MVP, who “retired” without even notifying TNT, to explain his action.
“We’re currently waiting for his notice/explanation regarding his actions on going AWOL (absent without official leave),” Cui said in a message to The STAR.
The 6-foot-6 Williams was among the players TNT signed to an extended pact until the end of the year so his retirement announcement during the team’s training camp in Laguna came as a shock to the squad.
“Kelly Williams left our training camp on Sept. 2 without any notice or explanation. He has not reached out to us ever since,” said Cui.
“We learned about his decision to retire via social media only. He is AWOL.”
Williams, during his guesting on the Ultimate Fan Hub Podcast, hinted it’s “more of business and life realization” that led to his decision. He also promised to tell his story in his follow-up book to “Rising Higher.”
