Muay events called off due to COVID

John Bryan Ulanday - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Local muay events scheduled next month have been postponed until further notice, the Muay Association of the Philippines (MAP) announced.

Included in the postponed competitions are the SUMVAC Baguio Olympics set May 8-10 and the Muay Thai National Championships Mindanao Leg in General Santos City on May 14-18.

“Due to the ongoing situation of the COVID-19 pandemic, officials of MAP have decided to postpone the following events until further notice,” said MAP chairman and president Gen. Lucas Managuelod.

“We continue to monitor the latest developments as well as local and national advisories in moving forward with the planned 2020 events. The safety and well-being of our athletes, coaches and officials are our top-most priority and we are committed to take all precautionary measures to ensure its implementation.”

The MAP is fresh from a brilliant SEA Games campaign with three gold, four silver and two bronze medals for a second-place finish behind muay champion Thailand.
