Joey Villar - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — From January to March to May and now to October.

The 10th ASEAN Para Games was rescheduled for another date, pushed to October this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The ASEAN Para Sports Federation Board  moved the Para Games from March 21-27 to Oct. 3-9, with the hopes that COVID-19 has been “put under control and no longer a threat to human” by then.

“APSF is adhering strictly to the guidelines and preventive measures stipulated by the World Health Organization and health authorities to help contain the pandemic in the respective ASEAN nations to protect the health, welfare and safety of all participating athletes, officials and contingents,” said the APSF in a statement.

It was the third time the biennial event for differently abled athletes was rescheduled.

The event was originally set in January but was pushed to March due to lack of funds.

Then came another postponement.

Now, the ASPFB wants to hold it in October.

Philippine Paralympic Committee vice president Tom Carrasco said members of the national para team were asked to go home as training has stopped.
