Cavaliers stake unbeaten streak

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Defending champion Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) tries to boost its bid for an outright semis berth when it battles Judiciary tomorrow in the 8th UNTV Cup at the San Juan City gym.

Coming off a gutsy 86-84 win over the National Housing Authority Builders at the start of the second round of the elims, the AFP Cavaliers are slightly favored over the Magis in their 2 p.m. showdown in the event organized by UNTV president and CEO Dr. Daniel Razon for public servants.

Out to lead the Cavaliers are Jerry Lumongsod and former Letran star Boyet Bautista, who scored 19 and 17 points the last time as the Cavaliers improved to 6-0.

The Builders are out to recover from that defeat when they collide with the Department of Agriculture Food Masters at 3:30 p.m.

The Food Masters need to bounce back from a 94-85 defeat to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Warriors if they are to improve their 4-2 mark.

Meantime, Malacañang-Philippine Sports Commission tries to improve its 5-1 mark when it battles the PITC Global Traders at 5 p.m.

The event offers P4 million to the chosen charity of the champion team.
