MANILA, Philippines — With Matthew Wright blazing from downtown, Phoenix Pulse outlasted Blackwater, 120-117, in a no-bearing overtime encounter fought with championship-like intensity last night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
One of the league’s premier gunners, Wright rained three treys in the final 37 seconds of regulation then rifled in the marginal triple on a tight angle with two seconds left in extra time to help the Fuel Masters bow out on a winning note.
The Fuel Masters finished their campaign at 3-8 and gave veteran big man Doug Kramer a nice send-off.
“At least we ended on a winning note. That’s what we really wanted on Doug’s retirement game,” said Phoenix coach Louie Alas after what he jokingly referred to as a “championship” game against fellow eliminated Blackwater (2-9).
Later, Ginebra clinched twice to beat advantage in the quarterfinals with a game to spare after beating Columbian Dyip, 113-90, for a 7-3 mark.
