Tenorio hits new marks

MANILA, Philippines — L.A. Tenorio, the PBA’s reigning “Iron Man,” isn’t done adding feathers to his cap. On Wednesday, Tenorio joined the elite ranks of players to have breached the 1,000th three-pointer and 800th steal barriers.

Tenorio, who has played a record 627 consecutive games as of Wednesday night, earned the distinction of being only the seventh PBA cager to achieve the twin feats. 

The Ginebra playmaker is only the second among active players to hit 1K triples after Rain or Shine’s James Yap and also No. 2 to make 800 interceptions after San Miguel’s Chris Ross.

“That only means I’m already old,” joked the 14-year pro, who carved his name in the annals during the first quarter of their 101-93 win over Blackwater. 

Turning serious, Tenorio said: “It’s an honor and blessing to be part of that (elite) group of players who achieved that milestone. I don’t know what to say but I’m thankful for the blessings, and the trust given to me by all the teams I’ve been with in the PBA.”

The 35-year-old veteran said he’ll continue to strive for excellence. “It doesn’t end here,” he said.
