University of Batangas stuns Olivarez, seals rubber match

MANILA,Philippines — University of Batangas stunned Olivarez College, 89-80, and forged a rubber match in their semis series in the PG Flex Linoleum-Universities and Colleges Basketball League at the Olivarez College gym last Monday in Parañaque City.

JJ Caspe and Raoul Yemeli struck early for the Brahmans, who repelled repeated comebacks of the second-seeded Sea Lions.

The knockout game is set Monday with the winner earning the right to face top seed and defending champion Diliman College in the finals, which is a best-of-three affair.

The Diliman Blue Dragons got a huge lift from Robbi Darang to beat the fourth-ranked Centro Escolar University Scorpions, 64-63.

Yemeli and Caspe finished with 16 points each apart from providing the intangibles that helped them beat the Sea Lions for the first time in three games this season.

Don Tabol and Mart de Ramos also stepped up for UB with 11 points apiece.
