MANILA, Philippines — San Beda tries to pull away from the pack as it shoots for win No. 10 versus Emilio Aguinaldo College at the start of the second round of the 95th NCAA basketball tournament today at the Flying V Centre in San Juan City.
The Lions swept the first round in nine games that was capped by a 69-60 victory over the Mapua Cardinals last Friday. A win in their 12-noon duel with the Generals, at the bottom with a 1-8 (win-loss) card, would extend their amazing streak to 10 and 24th overall, including 14 in row a season ago.
It will also give the reigning three-peat champion more separation from the rest of the field headed by Lyceum, Letran, San Sebastian and St. Benilde, at distant second with identical 6-3 records.
“The goal is to win as many games so we can get a spot in the top two and the twice-to-beat edge in the Final Four,” said San Beda coach Boyet Fernandez.
