Del Rosario paces BWC national finals
MANILA, Philippines — Veteran Liza del Rosario finished strong Sunday at Coronado Lanes to chalk up a 10-game series of 2133 pinfalls and lead 33 other lady campaigners into the second round of the five-day Bowling World Cup national finals.
Del Rosario shot big games of 245, 223 and 238 to pull ahead of 2017 BWC ladies’ international champion Krizziah Tabora Macatula, who carded 2119 to rank second. Macatula started with a 244 and rolled other big games of 258, 237 and 220 but her 186 in the ninth game enabled Del Rosario to take the lead.
Rachelle Leon came in third with 10 games of 1943.
In the men’s division, the 34 remaining aspirants from a field of 80 finalists will play another 12 games with lane changes after each game today at Superbowl with their scores carried over to determine the top eight bowlers who will bid for the national title and the right to represent the Philippines in the BWC international tournament in Palembang, Indonesia on Nov. 16 to 24.
The men’s field is led by Merwin Tan, who earned a slot in last year’s BWC international finals in Sam’s Town, Las Vegas, Nevada.
Legendary Paeng Nepomuceno, the only four-time men’s international champion so far, checked in behind Tan.
