Brahmans, Scorpions off to triumphant starts

MANILA, Philippines – University of Batangas delivered a statement game in its UCBL return, downing Philippine Christian University-Dasmariñas, 92-80, at the Olivarez College Gym in Parañaque yesterday.

Title favorite Centro Escolar was also victorious in the fourth PG Flex Linoleum UCBL inaugurals.

The Scorpions drew an inspired game from Cebuano hotshot Eric Gabrielle Tuadles to overpower the Olivarez College Sea Lions, 89-69.

Tuadles showed lots of promise by knocking down six treys in a 23-point game off the bench.

Backing up the 18-year-old Tuadles were Angel Paul Escalona and Franz Diaz as the Scorpions erased a 14-20 deficit in the first quarter.

With JJ Caspe and Don Tabol making their outside shots, the Brahmans took a 29-18 first quarter lead which they gallantly protected to jumpstart their title bid in the eight-team tournament.

Caspe made 9 of 14 attempts from the field, including 3-of-5 from the 3-point area to lead the Brahmans with 27 points. He also had five rebounds,  three assists and three steals in an impressive all-around game.
