Malditas fall short versus Vietnam XI

Olmin Leyba - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The  Philippine Malditas fell short of their quest to make more history as Vietnam denied them of a finals stint in the Asean Football Federation Women’s Championship with a 2-1 verdict last night at the Institute of Physical Education Chonburi Stadium in Thailand.

The Filipinas, who are on a high after reaching the Last Four of the tourney for the first time ever, actually took the early lead as they forced the Vietnamese defense to yield an own goal at the 35th minute.

Two-time winner Vietnam, though, restored order not long after with skipper Huynh Nhu firing the equalizer at the 41st.

Vietnam came out of restart charging and got the go-ahead in the 58th when  Nguyen Thi Tuyet Dung let loose a glorious finish past Phl keeper Inna Palacios.

The Malditas will have a chance to cap their historic run with a medal when they play the loser in the other semis duel between Thailand and Myanmar for the bronze.
