Dean Yao wins it all at Wack Wack

MANILA, Philippines — Dean Yao, a 27-handicapper, captured the overall title in the 19th President’s Cup golf championships over the weekend at the East course of the Wack Wack Golf and Country Club.

Yao, the 60-year-old vice-president of Steel Asia Manufacturing Corp., shot 51 points under the Stableford scoring system to edge Jun Taki and Manuel Sta. Cruz via countback.

Yao also went home with a brand new Mazda 2 1.5V put up by ANC+ Group of Companies after scoring a hole in one on the 16th hole.

Taki settled for the seniors’ crown, beating Sta. Cruz in another countback. Michael Go settled for third place with 48 points.

Class A winners were Hubert Lim, 41 points; Jerbie Ong, 40; and Tootsie de Jesus, 39.

Richard Ng topped Class B with 45 points followed by Eric dela Rosa, 44; and Raul Paras, 43.

In Class C, San Juan Mayor Francis Zamora posted 46 points to nip Van William Co via countback. Charlie Chua took third with 45 points.

Class A title in  the ladies’ division went to Diana Araneta with Mikaela Arroyo and Leana Carmona taking second and third, respectively.

Rosalie Heoled ruled Class B followed by Sofia Araneta and Jessalyn Tan, respectively.

The annual event, organized to honor current board chairman Lawrence Tan, drew a field of 288 members and 64 guests.

Roland Rotoni topped the guest division played at the West course, edging David George and Gene Sison via countback after all three submitted 36 points apiece.
