MANILA, Philippines — UnionPay, a global payment brand, has entered into a one-year partnership with the Philippine Basketball Association as the official payment partner of Asia’s first play for pay league.
Vincent Ling, UnionPay deputy general manager in Southeast Asia, said: “UnionPay is delighted to be the official payment partner of PBA. The partnership with the PBA is our first major sponsorship in the country and the first basketball sponsorship globally.
“Our strategy is to always serve and connect on a deeper level with our consumers and local communities. With the PBA partnership, we hope to bring the heightened excitement surrounding the games even closer to fans and UnionPay cardholders in the Philippines.”
PBA commissioner Willie Marcial welcomed their partnership with UnionPay.
“We are extremely thrilled to have UnionPay onboard as our first ever payment partner in the history of PBA. The PBA audience is hugely passionate, with a sincere love for the game – the same passion UnionPay shares with PBA fans and all Pinoys. UnionPay’s innovative approach and commitment to customer experience strike great synergy with our PBA values and we very much look forward to working together,” said Marcial.
As the PBA’s official payment partner, UnionPay will be offering privileges to its cardholders from the Philippines. Cardholders who spend any amount between July 10 and Aug. 31 with UnionPay Cards issued locally can win “Money Can’t Buy” exclusive PBA merchandises which include PBA jerseys, shirts and basketballs endorsed by popular PBA players.
To participate, UnionPay cardholders need to register the total amount spent at www.unionpaywin.com.
