Red Lions, Falcons set semis duel

MANILA, Philippines — Reigning NCAA champion San Beda turned back Far Eastern University, 60-52, and Adamson routed San Sebastian, 81-61, yesterday to set up an interesting semifinal showdown in the Filoil Flying V Preseason Cup 2019 at the Flying V Centre in San Juan City.

Evan Nelle led all scorers with 16 points while James Canlas and Cameroonian Donald Tankoua chipped in 13 and 12, respectively, to lead the Lions while Congolese Lenda Douanga bulldozed his way to 17 points and 15 rebounds to pace the Falcons.

The victories arranged an intriguing semis showdown between San Beda and Adamson at 4 p.m. Thursday.

Lyceum of the Philippines University, the NCAA runner-up in the last two seasons, downed Centro Escolar U, 75-68, and La Salle smashed Letran, 80-69, to forge their own semis duel at 2 p.m.

Alvin Baetiong and Raymar Caduyac came through for the Pirates with the former ending up with 13 points and five caroms and the latter 10 points, three assists and two rebounds.
