Lions roar on; Maroons pull out

MANILA, Philippines — San Beda completed a sweep of its Filoil Flying V Preseason Cup elims assignment with a hard-earned 75-73 win over Santo Tomas at the Filoil Flying V Centre yesterday.

Formally claiming Group A top seeding, the Lions play the FEU Tams in the quarterfinals.

In another game, Adamson drubbed National U, 70-61, to secure the No. 2 spot in Group B.

Meanwhile, University of the Philippines pulled out of the tourney to train in the US.

“It is with regret that we announce the pulling out of the UP Fighting Maroons,” said UP coach Bo Perasol in a statement.

Perasol said they joined the league while waiting for their visas to be approved. Now that the Maroons have secured their visas, they have to give up their quarters spot.
