John Bryan Ulanday - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Far Eastern University squeaked past Adamson, 66-63, to claim its third straight win in the Filoil Flying V Preseason Cup yesterday at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

Cameroonian big man Patrick Tchuente racked up 14 markers, four rebounds and three assists to lead the way for the Tamaraws.

Ken Tuffin and Hubert Cani also chipped in 12 and 11 points, respectively, while Barkley Ebona added an all-around game of six points, seven boards, four assists and two steals.

The Morayta-based squad improved to 3-2 to gain a share of fourth spot with idle National University in Group B of the summer tournament that serves as build-up of collegiate schools for the NCAA and UAAP.

“We’re up the whole game but the good thing was we hung tough in the end,” said FEU coach Olsen Racela after his wards weathered an Adamson rally from a nine-point deficit in the waning minutes.

“Every time we play a UAAP team, it is a good gauge to see where we are in our preparations. “

Congolese big man Lenda Douanga, on the other hand, put up a double-double of 17 points and 16 rebounds for the Soaring Falcons who slid to 4-2 also in Group B.

In other games, Lyceum edged Jose Rizal University, 86-79 to top Group B while Emilio Aguinaldo College ended its campaign with huge 78-69 upset of College of St. Benilde.
