MANILA, Philippines — Light-flyweight Ramel Macado came through with another crushing win, this time a 5-0 shutout over SEA Games gold medalist Muhammad Fuad Bin Mohd Redzuan of Malaysia to power his way into the quarterfinals of the Asian Boxing Championships in Bangkok.
The 23-year-old Koronadal City bet was more overpowering and relentless against Fuad than in his 4-1 victory over Iranian Ahmadisafa Omid in the opener of the annual event that gathered 313 boxers from 34 nations in the region.
The victory set up Macado against the winner between Kazakhstan’s Temirtas Zhussupov and Thailand’s Samak Saehan in the last 8 phase today.
Ian Clark Bautista, a gold medalist in the 2018 Feliks Stamm tournament in Warsaw, Poland, also moved closer to the medal round after matching Macado’s easy win against Vietnam’s Nguyen Van Gioi, 5-0, in their bantamweight duel.
Josie Gabuco, for her part, posted a walkover victory after Tandin Lhamo of Bhutan got disqualified for failure to show her medical book, and moved into the quarters in the flyweight class.
