Founders’ CCC snares overall lead

MANILA, Philippines — Playing in the lower tier, Cebu Country Club upstaged those vying in the premier division by pooling a 121 at Mactan Island Golf Club yesterday and grabbing a two-point lead over Championship bracket leader Del Monte halfway through the PAL Men’s Interclub in Cebu City.

Jovencio Lusterio shot a one-under-par 71, also at the exacting Mactan layout, worth 37 points as Del Monte also assembled a 121 and wrested a two-point lead over erstwhile frontrunner and five-peat seeking Manila Southwoods in the Championship side.

But CCC, which scored a 124 in the first round, took the overall lead with a 245 total, two points ahead of Del Monte, which pooled a 121 on a demanding day at Mactan Island Golf Club, opening the door for Cebu CC, to grab the overall lead also with 121 at Mactan for a 245.

The 4th FVR Golf Classic will tee-off tomorrow at 7 a.m. at Camp Aguinaldo Golf Course, Quezon City.

The Bukidnon-based squad had a 243 total, enough to drive it past Southwoods, which struggled with a 116 for a 241.Tagaytay Highlands also slowed down with a 109 after a 124 for a 233. Luisita made a 114 for a 232, 11 shots off Del Monte.

But the hosts, competing in the Founders Division, found themselves the overall leader heading to the final two days.

CCC’s 245 also put it 14 points ahead of The Orchard, which had a 231 after a 110, in the Founders with Riviera Golf at third at 115-227.
