Cocolife taps defense-oriented Yasmeen Bedart-Ghani as import

MANILA, Philippines – In a bid to improve its defense, Cocolife is bringing in a good defender to serve as reinforcement in the Philippine Superliga Grand Prix.

Cocolife team official Joshua Ylaya bared that former Texas star Yasmeen Bedart-Ghani is set to fly in to power them in their campaign in the import-flavored conference starting next month.

The 6-foot-4 opposite is known for her defensive intensity, something that the Asset Managers need following the departure of national team member Denden Lazaro.

Ylaya said she is a good friend of Kalei Mau, their Filipino-Hawaiian star who is being primed for a bigger role in her second conference in the country’s most prestigious women’s club league.

Bedart-Ghani, who was part of the United States Collegiate Team that trained in Bangkok last year, is set to fly Monday noon.

“With Kalei slowly recovering from her previous injury, we realize that we need to compliment her with an import who can play good defense,” said Ylaya, adding that Bedart-Ghani can provide tremendous help to their new middle blocker in former Ateneo ace Amy Ahomiro.

“We know other teams are recruiting imports who can score. So we realize that to counter that, we will bring in somebody who can block and defend, especially now that Kalei will have a bigger role in our rotation.”

Ylaya added that they are close to reaching a deal with their second import – an open hitter who can compliment Mau in the scoring department.

“A lot of changes are happening and we’re still in the process of completing our roster,” he said. “Rest assured that there will e some announcements in the next couple of days.”
