MANILA, Philippines — PATTS College of Aeronautics survived a late rally by Immaculada Concepcion College, 74-72, to book its second win in three games in the NCRAA men’s basketball tournament at the A.R. Valdez Hall.
Norman Torreno led the way for the Seahorses with a team-high 25 points. He had seven in a 13-2 run that gave PATTS a 67-58 lead.
PATTS, however, needed to weather a late ICC uprising capped by Mark Palec’s basket that narrowed the gap at 70-71 with only 11 seconds remaining.
But Jexter Po, who was fouled in the next play, sank two pressure packed free throws that gave the Seahorses a 73-70 lead and the win.
De Ocampo outplayed Philippine School of Business Administration, 83-73 in the other game as it bounced back from an opening day loss to University of Luzon.
The Cobras unloaded 28 fastbreak points led by Jhonard Clarito. The forward, currently playing for the San Juan Knights, finished with 26 points off the bench.
Clarito kept the ralying Jaguars at bay with a three-point play that gave the Cobras a 76-67 lead. A big factor for De Ocampo’s win was PSBA’s missed free throws. The Jaguars muffed 24 of their 37 attempts from the foul line, resulting in their third straight setback.
In the other game, University of Luzon blasted National College of Business Arts, 80-62.
