MANILA, Philippines — The Ateneo de Manila University community is set to hold a bonfire to honor the Blue Eagles men’s basketball team’s championship title on December 14.

The Twitter page of Team AMDG confirmed the date on one of its posts.

Team AMDG said this year’s bonfire will coincide with the University of the Philippines’ annual lantern parade.

“Team Ateneo Bonfire and UP Lantern Parade on December 14. Prepare for One Big Night in Katipunan,” the page tweeted.

The traditional bonfire celebration is being done yearly to commemorate Ateneo’s champion student athletes.

Last year, the Ateneo community also celebrated the Blue Eagles’ first men’s basketball championship title after five years.

In her Twitter account, Ateneo alumna Kelsey Merritt who recently made it to the runway of Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, expressed excitement for the bonfire celebration.

“OMG. I’ll be back in the Philippines by then,” she said.

The Blue Eagles bagged the back-to-back UAAP men’s basketball championship title on Wednesday after sweeping the two finals games and defeating its rival and neighbor, UP Fighting Maroons.

Freshman Angelo Koaume was named UAAP Season 81’s Rookie of the Year while one of its star players, Thirdy Ravena, was hailed UAAP Finals’ most valuable player.
