Phoenix's Phelps dismisses Beermen as a 'regular team' sans Fajardo
MANILA, Philippines — Eugene Phelps and the Phoenix Fuel Masters have set their sights on a semifinal berth, and ultimately, a Philippine Basketball Association title.
With a win-loss record of 6-2 in the season-ending conference, Phoenix looks poised for the former—and if things go their way, the twice-to-beat incentive.
But they still have the dynastic San Miguel Beer in the pipeline, right?
The scoring machine in Phelps, though, is not worried about that.
“They’re a great team,” he told the press on Wednesday, after leading the charge in the Fuel Masters’ drubbing of NLEX Road Warriors at the Cuneta Astrodome.
“But honestly, without June Mar (Fajardo), they’re a regular team,” he continued. “We just gotta play our game and we’ll be fine.”

San Miguel Beer will be Phoenix’s upcoming assignment as the latter squad goes deeper into the second half of the elimination phase.
The Beermen will be going into that tussle sans their biggest star, the league’s four-time Most Valuable Player in June Mar Fajardo who is still recovering from a stress fracture to his right shin. They tangle on Friday, October 12.
