Paul Lee on latest game-winner: ‘Suwerte lang’
MANILA, Philippines — Making the game-winning shot? Paul Lee credits waking up on the right side of the bed.
“Napaganda lang gising natin kanina,” the Magnolia floor general said candidly when asked about his shot that sent the Hotshots past the stacked but undermanned San Miguel Beer and to a 4-1 record in the Governors’ Cup last Sunday.
But it could’ve been more than that. Lee, who had 22 points in the game before, paced his team with 28. The past two games have long eclipsed an underwhelming return to his PBA mother team where he only had eight.
“Suwerte lang na-open,” Lee added. “Kasi nag-gamble ‘yung import, eh nagkaron ako ng space para maitira nang maayos.”

“Siguro dala na rin nung maganda ‘yung start, nakuha ko agad ‘yung rhythm ko,” he offered.
Despite projecting that he just had been lucky, Lee hopes that he could ride on the momentum as the Hotshots continue to seek for wins as the Governors’ Cup nears its midway mark — where teams usually hit the panic button and scramble to snag victories for the playoffs.
“Sana next game maganda uli gising ko,” Lee wished with a smirk.
Magnolia will shoot for a 5-1 record Wednesday when they take on the Columbian Dyip, who had been listless for the past seven outings.
A victorious outing would send the Hotshots side-by-side with another sister team in Barangay Ginebra, which is now firmly latched atop the season-ending conference.
