MANILA, Philippines — Angelou Lofranco, Eljay Pamisa, Jhasli John Illudar and Ailene Kaye Caranagan used their power to crush their respective rivals and deliver the golds in boxing for Cagayan de Oro in the Batang Pinoy National Championships at the Baguio City National High School Gym yesterday.

The quartet outmuscled their rivals in school boys mosquito (38kg), school boys light paperweight (40kg), school boys paperweight (42kg) and junior girls flyweight (50kg), respectively, in victories that more than made up for the losses of teammates Rhein Jhon Gidor and Peter John Payla in separate divisions.

Gidor was outclassed by Quezon Province’s John Wayne Vicera in school boys light pinweight (44kg) while Payla yielded to Gabriel Dela Peña of General Santos City in junior boys light flyweight (48kg).

In futsal, Mandaluyong City ruled the boys’ under 15 division, Sagay City wrested second and Olongapo City finished third. Tanauan City topped the distaff side, beating Cebu Province and Benguet Province.

Cebu City won the gold while Pasig and Baguio wound up second and third, respectively, in boys’ U-13 division. In girls’ side, Mandaue emerged champion while Davao City secured second place and Pasig City third. 

Meanwhile, Cebu City swept Davao Del Norte, 25-19, 25-16, to take the crown in boys’ volleyball. Antique finished third by trouncing host Baguio City, 25-23, 18-25, 15-11.

Pontevedra clinched the beach volleyball boys title as it thumped Cebu City, 21-18, 18-21, 15-7, while Bacolod City dominated Cebu City, 21-18, 18-21 at 15-7, to crown itself champion in the girls’ division.
