Jayson Gonzales, Janelle Mae Frayna settle for another draw

MANILA, Philippines — Grandmaster Jayson Gonzales split the point with India’s Kartavya Anadkat to stay within striking distance of top seed Gadir Guseinov of Azerbaijan and India’s Anand Saurabh even as Woman GM Janelle Mae Frayna settled for another draw against Biswas Anustoop also of India after three rounds of the 44th Vila De Sitges in Spain yesterday.

Gonzales, who finished fifth in Barbera del Valles and 15th in Sant Marti, dropped to joint third with 2.5 points but will have a chance to improve with a victory over India’s Katiyar Deepak in the fourth round being played at presstime.

Saurabh, meanwhile, crushed IM Marvin Miciano, to join Guseinov at the helm with three points.
