Gonzales, Miciano sweep first 2 games, share chess lead
MANILA, Philippines — Grandmaster Jayson Gonzales and International Master John Marvin Miciano downed Ramon Montano of Spain and Woman GM Carla Serrano of Ecuador, respectively, to seize a share of the lead after two rounds of the 44th Vila De Sitges 2018 in Spain yesterday.
Ten others posted two straight victories each with Gonzales and Miciano seeking to stay on top as they face India’s Kartavya Anadkat and Anand Saurabh, respectively, in the third round being played at presstime.
Gonzales earlier toppled Spain’s Lluis Bohigas Santasusagna while Miciano dismantled Spaniard David Guix Torres.
Gonzales is out to sustain his strong play following his fifth place finish in Barbera del Valles and 15th place effort in Sant Marti last weekend.
So far, Gonzales is doing good.
Meanwhile, Woman GM Janelle Mae Frayna failed to match Gonzales and Miciano’s strong start as she settled for a draw with India’s Atul Dahale after hurdling Sweden’s Michael Mattsson in the opening round.
She goes for another win against Indian Biswas Anustoop.
