MANILA, Philippines — Jacob Ang of Eagle Cement Racing Team seeks a reprise of his victory in Macau last month when he sets out as the prohibitive favorite in the second leg of the Asian Karting Open Championships series sponsored by Petron at Carmona Racetrack in Carmona, Cavite, this weekend.
Ang, the 16-year-old son of San Miguel Corp. top honcho Ramon Ang, bested the region’s finest karters to rule the F125 Senior Open, F125 Veteran Open and X30 Senior categories in the first round of the series at the Kartodromo De Coloane in Macau.
The season defending champion will go up against practically the same field he bested in the former Portuguese enclave, including compatriot Eduardo Coseteng, Japanese ace Kaito Tsukada, Briton Reece Ushijima and China’s Yan Liang.
Racing for the PSR/Petron Team, Coseteng made it a 1-2 Philippine finish by pipping Tsukada of Asia B Racing Team with Ushijima and Yan also making it to the podium.
Bianca Bustamante also tries to duplicate her triumph in the opening leg as she competes in the crowded F125 Junior and X30 Junior classes.
