AJ Lim starts buildup for Asian Games
MANILA, Philippines — Albert ‘AJ’ Lim Jr. hopes to recover from a shoulder injury as he steps up his build-up for the Asian Games by training under Fil-Am coaches and competing in a number of tournaments in the US.
Lim failed to see action in the country’s Davis Cup duel with Thailand last April due to a right shoulder injury he suffered in leading University of the East to its second straight UAAP championship last March.
Aside from anchoring UE to the team championship, Lim also won the MVP plum for the second straight year in emphatic fashion.
Lim, 18, leaves for the US on Wednesday to train with many-time SEA Games champion Cecil Mamiit and Orlando Silvosa. He is also set to vie in several Futures tournaments and hopefully earn points for the Tokyo Olympic Games two years from now.
Though he has recovered from his recent injury, Lim also hopes to be fully armed, including improving his timing and quickness in time for the Asian Games in Aug.-Sept.
“They’re all experienced players so we have to prepare hard,” said Lim, one of the recipients of the country’s young achievers awards during the Siklab rites – thanks to the support of Philta president Atty. Antonio Cablitas, the Philippine Sports Commission and Philippine Airlines through its president and COO Jaime Bautista.
