PATAFA to field 18 Asiad bets
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Athletics Track and Field Association has added 10 more bets to its initial eight-athlete roster gearing up for 18th Asian Games slated Aug. 18-Sept. 2 in Indonesia.
Fil-Ams Natalie Uy (pole vault), Cristina Knot (100m dash) and Lily Carter (800m) head the additional batch submitted by the PATAFA to the Asian Games Task Force in yesterday’s deadline for submission of athletes and coaches by names.
The other seven are Janrey Ubas (long jump), Jomar Udtohan and Anfernee Lopena (4x100m relay), Francis Medina (400m hurdles), Clinton Bautista (110m hurdles), Edgardo Alejan and Michael del Prado (4x400m relay).
If approved, the new athletes will join hurdler and sprinter Eric Cray, sprinter Trentan Beram, decathlete Aries Toledo, long jumper Marestella Torres, triple jumper Harry Diones, marathoner Mary Joy Tabal and runner Marco Vilog, who made it to the team for winning a gold or a silver in last year’s Southeast Asian Games in Kuala Lumpur.
“Based on their personal best performances recently, we felt that these 10 new athletes have a chance to medal,” said PATAFA secretary-general Reynato Unso.
