Briones clinches crown in World Slasher Cup 2

MANILA, Philippines — Rey Briones of Masbate and farm manager Rod Advincula (Greengold Uno) scored 7.5 points out of a possible nine to emerge solo champion in the World Slasher Cup Invitational nine-cock Derby 2 before a jampacked crowd at Smart Araneta Coliseum last Saturday.

Briones, owner of the Spartans Gamefarms in Bulacan, reached the finals with only four wins but posted 3.5 points in the grand finals to pull off the surprise victory.

“The results showed how competitive Philippine cockfighting is today, so we can expect new gamefowl breeders to join the next World Slasher Cup in January,” said WSC media partner CEO Manny Berbano of Pit Games Media Inc. 

Dr. Bel Almojera of Florida, USA (Blue Angels 2) posted a 7-2 (win-loss) card to claim runner-up honors in the event hosted by the Pintakasi of Champions and sponsored by Excellence Poultry and Livestock Specialists.

Other seven pointers were Jun Tejada/Lawrence Lu (Peshmerga Angry Birds Aklan), Marvin Rillo/Migs Lavinia (MJ 3), Pol Estellado (PE Farms), Ricky Magtuto/Rey Tambong (Alqueen Ahluck Camsur), Frank Berin (Mulawin), Julia Nicole (June 17 Pangasinan) and Jojo Alcovendaz (Sulong Maynila).
