MANILA, Philippines — You could say San Miguel Beer’s Leo Austria has a knack for winning big prizes.
The 60-year-old tactician, who had been in the mentoring circuit for two decades, has quite the repertoire. Austria has won in the Philippine Basketball League, in the Asean Basketball League and of course, in Asia’s first pay-for-play league, the Philippine Basketball Association.
Having been a recepient of the prestigious Baby Dalupan Coach of the Year plum for three years now, it is as if he has reached the peak of his tactical might.
But last night’s historic San Miguel win proves that just like his wards, Austria is not yet slowing down.
Austria, himself a former PBA player, has won all of his trips to the finals. Asked about his unblemished record, the ever-quotable coach had quite a response:
#PBA2018 • I asked @TheSMBeermen’s coach @austrialeo to comment on going undefeated in six of his #PBAFinals trips. Check out his response. ???? pic.twitter.com/ltzNwPQe5B
