Aces to field ex-NBA G-League player Antonio Campbell
MANILA, Philippines – The Alaska Aces bared that they will be signing 6-foot-9 Antonio Campbell as their foreign reinforcement in the 2018 Commissioner's Cup.
Head coach Alex Compton himself made the announcement on Thursday afternoon.
Campbell, a native of Cincinatti, Ohio, last played for the Lakeland Magic, the Orlando's team in the NBA G-League (formerly D-League).
Only 23 years old, Campbell will be joining a relatively aging Aces crew and will bolster a frontline manned by Sonny Thoss, Vic Manuel, Noy Baclao, and Marion Magat.
The American cager normed 11.03 points, 7.02 rebounds and 1.04 blocks in his four years of stay with the Ohio Bobcats. He played all four years there en route to a Mid-American Conference Player of the Year award in 2016.
The Aces finsished with a 7-4 record (third in the elmination phase) in the current season's first conference. They reached the quarterfinals but lost to a retooled NLEX Road Warriors in two games.
Alaska opens its mid-season campaign on April 27 where they will try to erase the bitter taste of falling to ninth in the standings and missing the playoff bus for the first time since reigning as contenders.
