Chinese blank Pinoys in U23 Asian Baseball

MANILA, Philippines — Wang Tsung Hao turned in a brilliant performance on the mound as Chinese Taipei nipped the Philippines in seven innings, 14-0,  Friday at the start of the Super Round stage of the XXVIII BFA U23 Asian Baseball Championship at Hsing Chuang Stadium.

Wang pitched a no-hitter, struck out 11 and issued only one walk in a no-relief job as he nearly single-handedly shut out the Filipino batters to boost the Taiwanese’s bid for the gold medal.

Phl IX was scheduled to face another heavily favored squad, Korea, on the last game of the Super Round last night. The Koreans absorbed a 0-3 setback at the hands of Japan Friday and were hard-pressed to get back on track against the Filipinos.

Chinese-Taipei came away with a combined 12 hits against losing pitcher Junmar Diarao and his relievers Lesmar Ventura, Ron Christian dela Cruz, and Carlos Munoz to set the tone for the rout.

Lin Hand spearheaded Chinese Taipei’s offensive, slamming in three RBIs along with two runs on a 3-for-4 batting, as Lin Tzu Chieh and Lin Chia Yu each drove home two runners and reached home plate once.

Phl got on base only once as Wang walked Juan Alvaro Macasaet.
