IBA, Zambales , Philippines – Zamboanga dominated weightlifting, winning 31 of 64 golds disputed, and finishing with 23 silvers and 10 bronzes at the close of the PRISAA 2017 National Games here yesterday.
Central Visayas ruled the seniors division, Western Visayas topped the youth side in athletics and Central Luzon reigned in youth table tennis on the final day of competitions at the Zambales Sports Complex.
The Zamboangueños, carrying the colors of Western Mindanao, bested their rivals in weightlifting with Mary Flor Diaz, cousin of Olympics silver medalist Hidilyn Diaz, and Dessa de los Santos, Margarette Colonia, and Kristel Macrohon bagging three golds each.
De los Santos, Macrohon and Colonia were also medalists in the recent Asian Weightlifting in Tokyo, Japan.
Western Visayas, Central Visayas and Region IV-A Calabazon, meanwhile, topped athletics with the WV bets, powered by athletes from Iloilo, racking up a 92-43-23 (gold-silver-bronze) haul in youth.
CV posted a 119-53-53 medal take in the seniors category with Panay placing a far second with 44-41-45 and Region IV-A Calabarzon at third 31-28-44.
Diana Olverio led Central Visayas medal assault in table tennis by winning the women’s event, powering the team that included Athena Comaingking, Jerame Saromines and Leslie Agbon to the crown.
