MANILA, Philippines - 1-PACMAN Party List yesterday clarified that Rep. Mikee Romero will continue to sit as the party’s first nominee in Congress despite a standing warrant issued for his arrest.
“We see no reason to replace Cong Mikee as a representative of 1-PACMAN Party List and we will block any move calling for his ouster as the number 1 nominee of the party list and as member of Congress,” 1-PACMAN second nominee Rep. Enrico Pineda said in a statement.
“A pending criminal complaint is not issue enough to prevent Cong Mikee from serving as a congressman,” he added.
Pineda cited instances where congressmen and even senators were allowed to serve their terms despite being in detention facing graver criminal offenses.
“As far as we are concerned, Cong Mikee is still a sitting congressman and the party will, in the interim, of course pursue the pending proposals espoused by Cong. Mikee who incidentally sits as Vice Chairman of the House Committee on Youth and Sports Development,” he said.
Pineda assured the public that there will be “no let-up in initiatives that Romero advocates.
