Ongs top Shaw golf; Aguilera wins Benz
MANILA, Philippines - The father-and-son tandem of Jester and John Ong took the overall net plum while Adones Baluyut and Jorge Gallent bagged the low gross crown in the 28th Bill Shaw Memorial, the member-guest tournament of the Wack Wack Golf and Country Club co-presented by Shell and the Auto Nation Group, Inc. recently.
The Ongs turned in a pair of net 11-under 61s at the East and West courses for a 122 total, edging the pair of Danny Flores and Rey Aguilera, who tallied 66-58-124, by two strokes in the tourney.
But Aguilera became the event’s biggest winner as he scored an ace using a Beres Hybrid and Tour Special ball at the par-3 No. 11 of Wack Wack’s west course and drove home a brand-new Mercedes-Benz GLA prize worth almost P3 million. He and Flores also emerged the Class A champion.
Also winning division awards in this year’s Bill Shaw were Ronnie Emata-Roberto Figueroa in Group II, Florante Jimenez-Richard Salcedo in Group III and David Cheu-George Cheu in the seniors division.
Anthony Lao and Danilo Roleda ruled the sponsors division.
The tournament had Delta as major sponsor, Vitality/Consumer Care Products, Inc., Emirates, TW Steel Hongkong Trading Ltd. and Mizuno as platinum sponsor and San Miguel Corp. as diamond sponsor.
