IronKids, Superbods usher in Ironman 70.3
SUBIC , Philippines – Young swim-bike-run warriors usher in the 2017 triathlon season as they plunge into action in the Alaska IronKids Triathlon today at Remy Field here.
Close to 300 youngsters aged six to 14 engage in a spirited battle for top honors in the race that provides as an equally exciting curtain-raiser to tomorrow’s Century Tuna Ironman 70.3.
To be disputed are the 6-8, 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14 age-group titles with the event featuring regular campaigners and a slew of newcomers raring to showcase their wares in the event.
Competitors look to impress as they start their campaign in the Alaska IronKids circuit for the year. After the Subic race, two aquathlon races are slated next (April 9 at Manila Polo Club and June 3 also in Subic) before the culminating Alaska IronKids Triathlon in Mactan in August.
The winners stand to gain entry to Cebu IronKids with free flights and accommodation.
The Alaska IronKids, produced and organized by Sunrise Events, Inc. and sponsored by Alaska Milk Corp., is held to promote a well-balanced lifestyle for kids while providing a venue for family bonding.
The IronKids share the spotlight with participants in the Century Tuna Superbods: The Underpants Run, in kicking off activities for the Ironman 70.3 weekend in the former US naval base.
Finalists in the Superbods join fancied names in the sport in running through a scenic route along the Subic Bay Freeport Zone in a fun race that also gives back to the community.
Meanwhile, a stellar field of triath-letes, bannered by defending champion Craig Alexander and three-peat-seeking Caroline Steffen, slugs it out in the $15,000 Century Tuna Ironman 70.3 Subic Bay presented by Century Bangus, Department of Tourism and Tourism Promotions Board.
The premier triathlon event is also sponsored by 2Go Express (official courier and logistics partner), Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (venue partner), Acea Subic Bay (host hotel), Manila North Tollways Corp. (bike course partner), Gatorade (official sports drink), Saucony (official footwear and apparel partner) and TYR (official swim cap partner).
