Dizon, Nakamori split Petron Challenge honors

MANILA, Philippines - John Dizon and Japanese Takeharu Nakamori shared top honors in the kickoff leg of the Petron Blaze 100 X30 Challenge Philippines at the Carmona Racetrack in Cavite recently.

Nakamori flashed top form to rule the X30 Senior Blaze 100 class in Race 1 but Dizon struck back to top Race 2 of the event promoted by Ceramic Pro Philippines.

Other winners were Eduardo Coseteng Jr., Zach David and William Go of Edgesport Racing.

Coseteng Jr. took the X30 Junior Petron Tri-Action title over Keon Romoff in Races 1 and 2; David foiled Go and Junho Kim in the X30 Mini-ROK Petron XCS; while William Go upended Joharry Suba in a tight finish to snare the Formula Cadet Expert Ultron crown.

Dizon, one of Edgesport Racing’s top guns who just moved up from the junior ranks last season, humbled his more experienced rivals to pull off a surprise in Race 2. He, however, wound up third in the final race behind Nakamori and Mikey Jordan.

Dizon also wound up third behind Jordan and Nakamori in the pre-final heat of Race 2, he came through in the final race, checking in 0.873 of a second ahead of Nakamori in the 18-lap race.

Jordan ended up third while Larco Cortez and Ben Grimes wound up fourth and fifth, respectively.

 The event is sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines and sponsored by Petron, Petron Blaze 100 Euro 5, Petron XCS, Petron Ultron, Petron Xtra, Petron Sprint, Magnolia Pure Water and Yokohama.
