Centennial III keeps fine form

Abac Cordero - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Centennial III continued to keep the others at bay by ruling the IRC Racing Class 1 race of the eighth Standard Insurance Boracay Cup Regatta the other day in the world-famous island paradise of Boracay.

Skipper Judes Echauz once again squeezed the best from his all-Filipino crew as Centennial III, the overall champion of the event for the past two years, kept its fine form.

Centennial III also ruled the tough Subic Bay to Boracay Race last Saturday at the expense of archrival Jelik of Hong Kong steel magnate Frank Pong.

The victory in yesterday’s IRC race puts Centennial III in a strong position to retain the overall title in the event that draws the finest boats from around the world.

A handful more races are on tap off the waters of Boracay this week. The ongoing regatta is a combination of point-to-point and windward/leeward courses.

The event is sanctioned by the Philippine Sailing Association and is part of the Asian Yachting Grand Prix. Among the major backers are the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority, Watercraft Venture Corp., Seawind Boracay Resort, the Lighthouse Marina Resort and Subic Sailing Club.
