MANILA, Philippines - Arvin Jay Millet of TEMZ scored a double-title romp in the National Drag Racing Championships Southern Series, posing a big threat to Jonathan Tiu’s title retention bid at the Batangas Racing Circuit Drag Strip in Rosario, Batangas recently.
The event drew a new BRC record field of 225 drivers with the 21-year-old Millet upstaging the top guns to snare the premiere M&H Pro class plum. He also clinched the Expert crown of the series sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines and sponsored by M&H, Aguila Auto Glass and Sparco.
With Tiu out due to engine problems, Millet advanced to the finals after turning back Romualdo Vasquez, winning the M&H Pro class crown in 13.944 seconds against another favorite Jonathan Young of JCT Racing, who lost due to a red-light violation.
Ryan Quimpo, who bowed to Young in the semifinals, prevailed over Vasquez in their sudden-death duel for third.
In the Expert division, Millet held off cousin Jannery Millet to set up a title showdown against Victor Sherwin Benito.
Millet won in 13.692 with Benito clocking 14.483. Jannery Millet settled for third.
