MANILA, Philippines - Bureau of Fire Protection hacked out a thrilling 80-79 victory over National Housing Authority to snare the last quarterfinal berth in the fifth UNTV Cup at the Pasig City Sports Center over the weekend.
Former St. Francis of Assisi star Gilbert Malabanan starred for the BFP Firefighters as he scattered 23 points, including a clutch basket that helped preserve their lead and foil the NHA Builders’ bid.
Also delivering for the Firefighters were Gerald Botin and Anthony Lim, who chipped in 17 and 12 points, respectively, as BFP finished tied for fourth with Malacañang and defending champion Armed Forces of the Philippines with 6-4 records.
Meantime, Philippine National Police claimed the No. 3 spot by downing Malacañang, 71-63, in the tournament organized by UNTV president and CEO Daniel Razon.
The chosen charity of the champion team will get P4 million.
