MANILA, Philippines - Colegio De San Lorenzo guns for the fourth semis seat as it collides with University of Batangas today in the Universities and Colleges Basketball League (UCBL) at the Olivarez Sports Center in Sucat, Parañaque.
Though the CDSL Griffins are tied with the Bulacan State University Gold Gears at fourth with 4-6 records, the former can clinch the last semis spot with a victory over the surging UB Brahmans in their 2 p.m. encounter.
A setback, however, coupled with the Gold Gears win over the Diliman College Blue Dragons at 12 noon will hand the latter the last spot and a clash with No. 1 Centro Escolar University in the semis.
If CDSL and BulSU still finish tied at 5-7, the Griffins will take the last Final Four berth with a superior quotient. The Griffins beat the Gold Gears, 94-88, in the first round but lost the next, 84-85.
But the Brahmans are raring to play the spoilers’ role and close out their campaign on a winning note, having won their last two games after dropping their first nine matches.
In the semis, the No. 4 team will have to beat the Scorpions twice to advance to the finals, the same bonus enjoyed by No. 2 Technological Institute of the Philippines which tangles with No. 3 Olivarez College in the other semis duel.
The Scorpions are still unbeaten in 11 games while the TIP Engineers officially secured the No. 2 spot with a 79-74 win over the Olivarez Sea Lions the other day.
